about Club Mermaid

Club Mermaid is a Malmö based drag show aiming to showcase drag

talent and provide a safe and loving space for the LGBTQ+ community.

Founded by Jonna Blode Hanno in 2022 Club Mermaid wants to provide opportunites for drag artists and work to enhance the development of drag and its artistic range. Each night has a theme with different artists who're allowed to interpret the theme freely. Drag can be anything! Stand up comedy, singing, dancing, performance art, at Club Mermaid we love it all. We want to work closely with our community and provide opportunites for less experienced artists as well as professional. We aim to book a diverse group of talent and are always open to artist submissions.

Asta Norborg, also known as Fascia, has been a long time unofficial Mermaid adviser and is now officially joining the team as a technical producer and club booker alongside Jonna who continues her work as artistic director and senior producer. Also joining the team is La Sosi as head of media and producer. We also have a close bond with many of our performers that we work with often, such as Marqua who hosts the pre-show Marquas låda.

We want to have a positive impact on the queer community as well as the world at large and have previously collaborated with Ensamkommandes Förbund, Trans- och Tjejjouren, Tamam, Naturskyddsföreningen, RFSL and Page28.

Autumn 2022 Jonna was chosen as Ung Arrangör by Riksteatern and received funding for the shows September-December 2022 making it possible for us to have free admission. February 2023 we were no longer receiving any funding and therefore had to start charging entry to keep the night going Autumn 2024 Club Mermaid recieved cultural funding from Region Skåne and the European Union (as part of Vibe Lab's Night School) which has allowed us to grow and develop even more. Unfortunately as of December 2024 Club Mermaids again stands unfunded and has to rely completely on ticket sales to fund the events. However it is very important to Club Mermaid to be an including and open space for everyone regardless of financial income and so you can always contact Club Mermaid (latest three days before the event) to get a list spot no questions asked, however we kindly ask our audience to not misuse this option as it is vital we sell tickets to keep the club alive.

Club Mermaid started perfroming at Grand Malmö but we have also performed at Blå Båten, Sir Toby's and Malmöfestivalen. From January 2024 Inkonst Malmö is our home stage.

We are also available for other events; previously we've had workshops at Garaget Malmö for Youth Pride, Sex för Alla RFSU Cafékväll, Malmö Kulturskola, RFSL Års konferens, Reginateatern in Uppsala as well as private bookings such as bachelorette parties.
